UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires non-EEA nationals to pass a Secure English Language Test (SELT) in speaking and listening at level B1 after five years residency in the UK, in order to qualify for indefinite leave to remain in UK. The B1 SELT test is GESE grade 5 test offered by Trinity college London. The B1 exam is English speaking, listening as well as an understanding test. The B1 test is a requirement by the Home Office for anyone who is looking to apply for indefinite leave to remain in the UK or naturalisation to get British nationality. This test is offered by Trinity College London. You will need to familiarize yourself with the SELT exam structure and criteria to prepare for the actual test. It is 10-minute speaking and listening test

This test is conducted on screen with an examiner

Provisional results are provided a day after you take the exam

You will be assessed against the communication skills, language requirements, language functions, grammar, Lexis and Phonology at B1 Level. The actual test is divided in two parts as follows:

Topic: You choose a topic to prepare in advance of the test, for discussion with the examiner. You must complete a Topic Form in advance and bring it with you to the exam.
